2nd Hand Shop

second-hand

was dragged willingly went on the rounds of the 2nd hand/op/thrift shops with my wife & our Scottish friend Pat yesterday.

op-shop

Pat who has been a close friend of ours for many years is my adopted Mum, my real Mum is still alive, but Mummy Pat thinks I’m awesome. What I expected to be a day of drudgery fun really turned up a couple of great photo opportunities.

First I found an ultra incredible Teddy Hat/Beanie.

Michelle being a party pooper won’t cooperate in humouring me in embarrassing photo shoots. I didn’t even bother asking as we’ve been through it all before without success. However, Pat was only too willing to help out as my photographic assistant.

Doh!!! I forgot that I still had my sunglasses on & Pat didn’t tell me that I didn’t have Teddy’s face sitting up straight…

Next, I saw this item of amazingness in the kiddies stuffed toys bin.

Yes, it was none other than Captain Underpants. I was so excited I could hardly talk!!! I will never think of Op Shopping as a burdensome pointless exercise ever again.

I just love the thrift shops! I am happy you found such cool items. You need to be a “regular” now, and go often. I love your new hat! It looks very handsome on you! :)

    • Tony says:

I didn’t buy the hat. Out of compassion for the poor I left it there for some underprivileged needy person…..

  2. Bearman says:

I have my Captain Underpants sitting on my bookshelf.

    • Tony says:

      Wow that’s awesome. I’m impressed!!!

    • frigginloon says:

Gross Bearman, get your wife to wash them :)

  3. Era says:

Teddy Hat is adorable. My girls like it a lot. Also, the bearded look suits you. The look goes well with the new scooter.

    • Tony says:

I left it at the shop, I thought if I wore it in public I may get bashed by a gang of Harley Riders

  4. S. Le says:

Did you buy Capt. Underpants?? Please tell me you did! He would make a fine companion for Flat Tony. Dixie might want him though for her sharp little teeth.

    • Tony says:

I couldn’t leave him there to be all lonely….

  5. frigginloon says:

Tony you have possibly inspired a new breed of Secondhand hunters with your truly awesome post. I hope this becomes a regular feature !

    • Tony says:

Yes there may be hordes of weirdos searching the op shops for cool hats now

  6. sweetiegirlz says:

Please tell me you bought them! haha soooo cute!

    • Tony says:

Only the Captain, Teddy Hat was left unpurchased

  7. LVISS says:

SEEING YOU NEAR FULL FRO THE FIRST TIME. WE VISIT THESE SHOPS REGULARLY. SOMETIMES YOU GET VERY GOOD THINGS.

    • Tony says:

They do have bargains at times Lviss but here in Australia they are getting more expensive. Considering all the items are donated free to charity their prices have become quite high. They are supposed to be there to help the needy.

  8. Tasneem R says:

    The hat is cool..!

    • Tony says:

Cool??? Are you totally nuts, I wouldn’t be seen dead outside of the op shop in it. I even hid in the book room to get the photo so no-one else would see me wearing it….

      • Tasneem R says:

I have a different definition of looking ‘cool’ you see..

        • Tony says:

Actually my logic has failed, I hid in the book room to get the photo so no-one else would see me wearing it…
However, through the power of WordPress & my indiscretion in posting it the whole world can see me wearing it. I may as well just have bought it & wear it everywhere…

  9. That bear hat rocks!
We have “sabretooth*” hats here and if my darn head wasn’t so big…

*He’s the mascot for the Buffalo Sabres Hockey Club and the kids just love him… nothing like a giant carnivore to get fans rowdy.

    • Tony says:

It may Rock but I still don’t think I would wear it in public

  10. “I’m a happy bear, and I ought to be, ‘cuz I sit inside the store and wait to wear Tony …”

    • Tony says:

Now you just have to put it to music Dennis. I am predicting a top ten hit

  11. lavenderbay says:

The bikers wouldn’t touch you, Tony. With that beard, those shades, and those tattoos, wearing that touque would scream “Wanna make something of it?” like nothing else could.

    • Tony says:

I don’t think I would like to put them to the test…

  12. Jonno says:

    Tony-
Set the one of you in the bear hat as a profile picture for FACEBOOK; you may get a few smiles!!!!
“Born to be Wild Tony. yey yey!”
*Rocking my head back and forth while flashing the /m/ (Rock on figure puppet).*

    ahahahahahaahaha!

    • Tony says:

Born to be wild with a teddy beanie on my head. I don’t think that’s really very wild Jonno…
      Born to be mild maybe…

  13. Razzbuffnik says:

The hat goes so well with the tats. i bet if you went into a biker bar dressed like that, you wouldn’t have to buy drinks for yourself all nightall night.

    • Tony says:

Yep, they’d either say “That bloke’s got real guts coming in here with that hat on, he deserves free beer all night”.

      Or….

They’d say “Look at that stupid dork in the teddy hat, let’s kill him!!!”

You aren’t allowed to have beer in hospital….

  14. planetross says:

We are all Captain Underpants in our … underpants.
… someone called me Captain Brief once, but that wasn’t a compliment. hee hee!

    • Tony says:

      I wonder if there’s a Captain Thong???

  15. Sarah says:

You should have bought the beanie too!!!

    • Tony says:

I bought Captain Underpants for only 50 cents & Pat reckoned I paid too much. She said I only should have paid 10 cents but I reckon Captain Underpants was worth 10 times that amount, or maybe 6 times depending on how long it is till payday.
Your Mum sure drives a hard bargain. She’s the Op Shop Haggling Queen…
